The former horse tram administration office at North Adelaide is one of few surviving structures associated with the horse tramways in the Adelaide metropolitan area. The horse tramway was an important development in public transport facilitating the development of suburban areas. Adelaide's system of horse tramways established from 1878 was the first in Australia. It was progressively replaced by electric tramways from 1909.
